CODE OF ETHICS
PGN holds with respect and honor the act of supporting a client on their journey. We take the seat of the guide seriously and collaboratively agree upon the code of ethics listed below in our practice. Ethical adherence and self-awareness are incremental in our profession, and we respect the vulnerability of the clients we serve. When in practice we agree to maintain our code of ethics ensuring our actions are aligned with integrity, safety and quality of our work.
We give great thanks to those before us whom have collectively began this journey in which we are building upon and are grateful to have their code of ethics guiding ours: North Star Ethics Pledge, The Council on Spiritual Practices, The Conclave, MAPS code of Ethics for Psychedelic Psychotherapy version 4: 7 January 2021, AEP Code of Ethics and Kylea Taylor, Ethical Right Relationship.
FACILITATOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – As a PGN member I agree to seek peer intervision within the community for the intention of holding ethical and safe containers. I commit to an ongoing practice of self-reflection, intervision and personal development to support my self-knowing resulting in my efficacy as a guide.
SCOPE OF WORK - I agree to represent and practice my work honestly and accurately. I agree to practice within my scope of competence and if not, make informed referrals to other providers. I agree to represent myself in a way that is aligned with my background and training experience.
KNOWLEDGE & RESPECT OF TRADITION – As a PGN member, I value knowledge of the history of psychedelics, the history of cultures that have contributed through their traditions and maintain reverence for all those who have collectively contributed to the field I work in.
SAFETY – As a PGN member, I commit to upholding and ensuring safety in any client I engage with. I ensure a thorough intake has been completed before working with a client and have proper protocols in place should I need additional support. I am responsible for and complete my due diligence around maintaining both physical and psychological safety of my clients.
CONFIDENTIALITY – As a PGN member I respect and maintain my clients confidentiality. This means I do not disclose my clients identification to any person outside of intervision/supervision. I maintain my clients confidentiality in any and all forums unless my client explicitly gives permission otherwise.
INFORMED CONSENT – First and foremost we recognize the sovereign status of all beings, especially our clients. As a PGN member I agree to provide all necessary information to my clients around my practice so they can make an informed consent and acknowledge my clients right to withdraw consent at any given time in our work together and trust my client’s inner healer intelligence and take their lead.
TOUCH – As a PGN member I only offer touch if this is a technique within my scope of practice and only use touch for therapeutic purposes. If touch is a technique I utilize, I discuss and inform my client around the intention and purpose of touch and make clear this does not include sexual touch at any point in time. My client consents once they are fully informed of this technique and can withdraw consent to touch at any time. I maintain clarity within myself around when and how I engage and my motivations to utilize this technique.
SEXUAL BOUNDARIES – As a PGN member I do not engage, initiate or respond to any sexual advances with my client. I normalize erotic energy and honor this aspect of humanity without stigma but maintain my professional and responsible boundaries as a practitioner and will not engage sexually with any client.
DIVERSITY – As a PGN member I value the diverse population and various ethnic backgrounds of my clients. I transparently discuss any issues that may arise within my relationship to my client around diversity and background and process in a manner that reflects my honoring of diversity. I do not participate in discrimination of any kind.
FINANCES – As a PGN member I am clear with my clients about fees and payment before engaging in any professional relationship. I honor that my work is not for purposes solely based on financial gain and collaborate with clients in a way that allows them to meet my financial requirements and am creative and open to sliding scale, pro-bono, scholarship, sponsorship, donor supported services to increase accessibility to my services.
INTERVISION – As a PGN member I commit to ongoing intervision wisdom circles to maintain my ongoing self-work, maintain integrity in my practices and seek support when I feel it is needed. I commit to remaining a part of a community that shares in my ethics and values and provide support to my peers through peer to peer intervision as well.
We agree as a community and Network of responsible guides to adhere to the above Code of Ethics when engaging In a guide-client relationship.
